However, the series hasn't translated yet into a great game, something developer Propaganda Games hopes to change with Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned. Set outside of the film canon, Armada of the Damned is an action RPG featuring swashbuckling scurvy dogs battling it out on the high seas, both in sword and ship-based combat. How players move through the game will affect the main plot, as they make allegiances with other nations, and even other pirates. And that's not all, as you can insert your choice of pirate cliche here, then hit the cut.

Independent publisher Codename is to deliver a number of new social games to PlayStation Home from experimental and first-time developers, Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced.

Codename, which was formed by the team that curates the IndieCade events run at E3 and GameCity, says it will bring together indie developers from all over the world to collaborate and create exclusive titles for the PS3 virtual space.

07/20/2010 Dutch players break the world record by playing 50 hours A group of six Dutch gamers played Red Dead Redemption for 50 hours straight over the weekend, garnering them recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records. The event took place at a Dixons store in the Netherlands, where six players started out as competitors, but eventually decided to keep playing and get the world record together. All six will receive recognition from Guinness, a $1300 prize and a Twistdock connector from the event's sponsor.

There are two things that make this stand out from your average weekend-long play session. First, we're talking 50 hours for All 6 players without any interruption. Although that, of course, been done before (with less than healthy effects ), Guinness was there to put the official stamp on everything. So, until you get them to watch you play Final Fantasy XIII and all of its optional missions all in one sitting, this record will probably stand.

07/14/2010 Brooklyn Theatre put on plays inspired by video games Just because we're video game fans here at Joystiq doesn't mean we don't appreciate the more classical forms of art -- as long as they're related to video games, that is. Like this series of showsby Brick Theater in Brooklyn, NY, for example. It's a whole month of some quality live drama, all driven and influenced by video games.

There's Grand Theft Ovid, Which tells some of the Roman poet tales using everyone's favorite carjack simulator (along with a few other popular games). Modal Kombat features a set of guitar controllers that are used to play non-music games. The best, though, might be the Theater of the Arcade, which takes old games like Duck Hunt and Donkey Kongand presents them, re-introduced as a short theatrical vignettes. O Mario, Mario, wherefore art thou?

The shows are going on at the Brick through the rest of July. Performances are just $15, plus there's also a Rock Band Karaoke night and a few other game-related events sprinkled throughout the run. If your significant other is complaining that you're spending too many nights in front of the TV and not enough out enjoying the arts, this seems like a perfect compromise.

07/09/2010 Kids Who Play Sports Games Likely to Play Sports in Real Life

UK game industry group TIGA was more than happy to share research which indicated that children who play sports-themed videogames were likely to participate in real sporting activities as well.

French business school ESSEC had students in its International Sports Marketing Chair conduct the study and found that 38 percent of boys, under the age of 21, who played sport videogames practiced their favorite virtual sport in real life. Additionally, the study claimed that 75 percent of gamers (presumably from the same age group) actively took part in some kind of real sport.

Computer games are often demonized, "said Thierry ESSECs Lardinoit adding, we now know that these fears are unfounded.

Lardinoit continue, there is a strong correlation between video games and participate in real sports. Viewing television is a threat to physical activity. Computer games are not, however.
